Lampard hails 'outstanding' Coventry after comeback win over West Brom

Frank Lampard lauded his side's resolve after the English Championship leaders came from two goals down to win 3-2 at home to 10-man West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Aune Heggebo's double put the visitors 2-0 up but Josh Eccles pulled a goal back before the break.

And after Jayson Molumby had been sent off four minutes into the second half, goals from Ellis Simms and Victor Torp continued the fightback as Coventry completed a ninth win in 10 matches, with the Sky Blues seven points clear of second-placed Middlesbrough.

"Outstanding," said Lampard. "I thought we played well all of the game but just made a couple of mistakes that are not normally our thing this season.

"But the reaction to keep playing in the first half, even with the feeling of 2-0, sometimes can take the wind out of your sails. I thought our players were very positive with that," the former England midfielder added.

Morgan Whittaker earned managerless Middlesbrough a point with a second-half equaliser in their 1-1 Championship draw at struggling Oxford after Luke Harris fired the hosts ahead in the 28th minute.

Patson Daka scored for the first time in almost a year as Leicester frustrated Stoke's push for automatic promotion from the Championship with a 2-1 home victory.

Leicester striker Daka last found the net on December 3, 2024 in a Premier League win over West Ham but broke his drought by scoring the Foxes' second goal the stroke of half-time.

That added to Stephy Mavididi's opener before Mark Robins's Stoke, who began the afternoon only two points off second place, pulled a goal back at the start of the second half through Bae Jun-ho.

Bristol City maintained their promotion push with a 3-0 win at home to Swansea.

First-half goals from Rob Dickie and Emil Rils delighted the Ashton Gate faithful before substitute Yu Hirakawa put the result beyond doubt eight minutes from time.

Southampton continued their revival under interim manager Tonda Eckert with an impressive 5-1 win away to Charlton.

Finn Azaz scored twice, with Ryan Manning, Adam Armstrong and Casper Jander also on arget in a brilliant opening 45 minutes for the Saints, who have won all three matches since the German coach replaced Will Still earlier this month.

Portsmouth, the Saints' bitter south-coast rivals, ended a six-match winless run with a 3-1 victory at home to 10-man Millwall.

Full-back Zak Swanson put Pompey on the way to a much-needed win with an unstoppable 20-yard shot before Adrien Segecic's clipped in a second goal after half-time.

Mihailo Ivanovic pulled a goal back for Millwall, after Joe Bryan had seen red for the visitors, but Jordan Williams wrapped up victory for the hosts late on at Fratton Park.

Philippe Clement's first match as Norwich manager ended in a 4-1 loss away to Birmingham that left the Canaries in the relegation zone.

There was no 'bounce' for the Belgian boss, a former manager of Scottish giants Rangers, as Marvin Ducksch and Jay Stansfield shared the goals for Birmingham.
